That bewhildering ride from the airport , the heat, noise and aroma, whizzing motor bikes all around , most of all the glimpses of shocking poverty down the side streets, being hit on by the driver for tours at huge prices while trying to look down my top, all added up to a nightmare and made me think WHAT have I done, I could have been in Hawaii instead !! It took 2-3 days to relax and get over the culture shock but then I never looked back
Even now, it takes me at least a day to slow down , lose the uptight full speed city attitude and get into the Bali mode ! Mostly caused by the stress of getting there, working doubly hard to get things organised so things run smoothly while I am away that I end up exhausted
But after day 2 - Bliss ! Nowhere like it for de-stressing as long as you go with the flow
I look back sometimes at the money spent on my Bali holidays and wonder whether it would have been better spent elsewhere, on more 'sensible' things like paying off the mortgage or replacing furniture - but NO NO , it's been worth every cent and I don't regret a thing :-)
