We pleaded with them to reduce it (and tried offering money to check in guy but he wouldnt take it.) We asked could they allow a bit of leeway considering we had a third passenger who was not over.
The check in officer referred us to the Customer Service desk where the amount was reduced a bit. We then spoke to a manager in the office who reduced it to $40.00 AU. They were very good about it and very pleasant. Tried to weigh bags before going to airport but hotel had lost their scales so thought we would just see how we would go. As I was travelling without my husband and kids this time, I did not have the benefit of spreading our luggage between us. Next time, I will have to be stronger and say NO to friends who ask me to buy them things while over there. Shopping for others added up to about 5 kg. Next time I will abide by the limits. Rules are rules and I broke them and was lucky I did not have to pay original amount.
