For all the old hands you probably dont want a rehash of the exchange rate and how much a t-shirt costs so here's a couple of points only that might be of interest:
GARUDA BUSINESS CLASS have upped their standard. I think they have refurbished the cabin - certainly looks like new fabric on seats. The food is ten times better than last time I went in Sept 04, more variety and much more care in preparation. Service was always pretty good. Worth the splurge though the entertainment is still ordinary.
WATERGARDEN HOTEL, CANDIDASA has new owners and noisy renovation being done when we were there. Didn't faze us too much but it certainly wasn't the quiet oasis of previous years. The owners were very apologetic and gave us a free meal and bottle of vino to make up for it. The good thing is that the rooms, as charming as they are, really are in need of a facelift so I'm look forward to next visit to see what's been achieved.
The breakfasts which were always stunning have slipped a bit but the restaurant and staff are still fantastic.
SANUR
Lots of road works happening Jl Danau Tamblingen but should be finished by now. Griya Santrian still fab and very busy for the tiem we were there - too busy really for me! This hotel maintains its consistentyl high standard.
DEPARTURE LOUNGE NGURAH RAI
At last the Dewi Lounge, that disgusting smelly "Business Class" lounge at Ngurah Rai, is in the process of being relocated and competely renovated. It was useable and nearly finished on our departure. Still not as good as the upstairs lounge but I'm now happy to use it and not try and bribe my way into upstairs!! Food still very average but the environment is much better. Yay.
Weather was great, people gracious as usual and I can't wait for Visit No. 15 next year.
