We did this last year and found that every scale we tried along the stip weighted about 1.2 to 1.5 kg for a 600ml bottle.
At first we got really annoyed with the vendors. Then we reaslised the game and simply negotiated a price.
We basically looked around for one that looked good, was clean enough and had nice looking seafood. We then put our bottle on the scales and looked shocked. The vendor then came over and we asked for special price since their scales were out. They came out with the "real" price.
We found that a lot of places asked silly prices when the "error" of the scales was factored in, but when we got the better price, it was very reasonable.
Its all a game. Yes, it would be much easier if they have correct scales and a set, reasonable price, but then it woudl also be easier if the markets had fixed but cheap prices and we didn't have to bargin. But then it wouldn't be Bali would it......
Anyone else had similar or different experiences or advice for getting a good quality, reasonably priced meal in JB???
