I have been to bali many times before, but am about to take my little 8 month old for the first time next week. We are taking a back carrier with us as on previous trips we have taken note of the condition of the footpaths in bali and decided that they would be a nightmare for pushing around prams, we have decided to give the back carrier ago and if it does not do any good, we will purcahse a cheap stroller. Having said that I have alos seen a few families with strollers, some seemed to be coping ok although it looked a bit of a bumpy ride for the baby, whilst another I noticed stayig in my hotel, ended up opting for the back carrier every time he went out. I agree that it may get hot for you using the back carrier, but there are plenty of places to stop along the way for a break and a cool drink. I know that Matahari does sell strollers at reasonable prices, but I do not recall seeing any back pack carriers.
