I've stayed here 3 times now and love the place. I find the staff friendly, but then I did get to know them just after the bombing when it was so quiet, but they are just plain busy these days because the hotel is usually full. A testament to good business management I'd say.
I guess they need to make some cuts to keep their prices so low and You'll probably notice fewer staff around plus the pool man may take your drink order or the pool bar waiter may check your towels in or out. That's s two sided thing I suppose, fewer jobs available but come the end of the month when the service charges are shared out that means more for each employee. The laundry over the road is a very happy place, and so cheap!!
The hotel is so lovely and the prices so good, for food and drinks as well as tariff, that I am more than happy to do the following.
Not worry about speedy service.
Pour my own coffee if I'm in a hurry.
Wait a little for eggs or the toaster.
Go over the road for a chat with the laundry lady, who is so lovely and does such a good job for ridiculous prices. Remember to tip her, she's worth her weight in gold.
I suppose it depends what you want. We like to go often to Bali so price is important to us and this is a standard way above it's price range, love the place.
For those who want pampering and total service and hey it's your holiday and you're entitled to want whatever you want (Isn't that the good thing about Bali. We can all have the kind of holiday we want) Then you should stay 4* or 5*, but of course you will pay more.
The hotel restaurant or pool snacks are very good and same prices more or less as outside restaurants. On the beach at the back of the hotel are a quite a few restaurants, all good. Also up the streets outside the front are many good ones.
The Kodak shop one off the corner of Jln. Pura Bagus Taruna (formerly Double 6 street) at the front of the hotel turn right and it's opposite Jayarkarta Hotel is and honest money changer. No hassles.I think it is called Orchid Photo.
