Emiko and I had ballroom dancing shoes made to measure at Dolphin Leather in Jl Sahadewa, near Jl Melasti. So also did some of our dancing friends.
We have several keen ballroom dancing couples as friends, including two couples who both teach and organise dances in Australia, and who have been regular visitors to Bali for years and none of us know about any regular dances. Sometimes if you are in a restaurant with a bit of space and the right kind of music you may get a jive, rumba or cha cha, but that's usually about it.
One time I went looking for a ballroom with a proper wooden dance floor with the intention of taking a group of dancers next trip, but no luck. Several hotels claimed to have "ballrooms", but they were all fully carpeted. I seem to recall that the restaurant at the Peninsular Hotel in Nusa Dua has a good wooden floor and I'm sure that they would push the chairs and tables back for some good paying customers.
I would be cautious about any so-called dance put on by one of the big hotels. I would be inclined to think that it would be designed to attract big spending, overdressed posers rather than people who wanted to dance and knew how to do it, but maybe I'm just being cynical.
I do know, however, that some of the local musos know how to play a surprisingly good variety of dance rythms. There's probably an opening here if anyone wanted to pursue it.
