to bring back the equivalent of 2 bottles of alcohol duty free so long as you declare it on your customs form so put a tick in the box re excess booze. This is even if you buy it duty free on your way back thru. As to cigarettes, most Duty free cartons of smokes are 250 in a carton. The one open pack is a single packet not another opened carton.
I declared that I had one duty free carton bought upon re-entry into Australia and 1 carton of Sampoerna bought at Bintang supermarket. Strictly speaking they should have charged me duty on the second carton, but they allowed it through.
As for a friend who arrived home 4 days before me who also declared 2 cartons of Indonesian cigarettes....well he had to pay $120 duty on them, and is not a happy camper. Go figure how they determine who gets what thru....
