I understand that you can hire snorkeling gear all over the place, but I prefer to take my own. That way I know the mask is a good fit and I know whose mouth the snorkel has been in. Just a personal preference I suppose.

I've been to Padang Bai by car and by motorbike, but not by boat so I can't compare. [If you go by motorbike wear a helmet as there are often police checks in the Candi Dasa area.] One thing about Blue Lagoon, get there reasonably early before the waves get up a bit.

With only two days in Candi Dasa I wouldn't bank on great snorkeling, could depend on the weather and the state of the tide, but this is a very scenic area with nice people and a peaceful change to the busier parts of Bali. Also Padang Bai is an interesting place to visit. I'm sure you'll all enjoy yourselves.
