The last time we went to Bali (8 long months ago) we only took Australian dollars and this proved to be the easiest, most fuss free way of exchanging money, we kept the cash in the hotel safe box and exchanged $100 at a time whenever we needed money at either the hotel exchanger(the most convenient but also the least competetive in the exchange stakes)or a local money changer, being vigilant and re-counting the money in front of them. We also took our credit cards and used these where we felt it was safe and convenient to do so.
