Your ticket would be slightly more expensive is all I am saying if you take the option of your own arrangements. You didn't 'have' to book through them they are at fault if they didn't advise you of a slightly higher fare. The you can stay where the heck you like.
We have done this a few times, there are different tickets, used to be the shortest option price stayed the same. That was changed and we all panicked that we wouldn't be able to get minimum packages, we did get them but at a slightly higher cost. I hope that explains it for you.
