I only make this one small point because I have seen similar reasoning on here before so hoping it may be useful to someone. Regarding your VOA and currency conversion. You actually got a pretty good deal if 4 visas cost you AUS$140. Not sure how you got to AUS$122 but am assuming you did something like this; went to a currency converter site or newspaper listing and converted US$100 to Australian dollars which would give you AUS$122.. However, you do not have US$'s, you only have AUS$'s so you have to convert the other way, i.e. Buy US$100 with your Australian currency. Given that the buy rate is different from the sell rate, AUS$140 would only actually buy you US$103 BEFORE you have paid any commission. To put this simply, if you went to any bank in Australia today to buy US$100 you would have to pay AUS$135.30 + commission.
