We were in Bali last September also - whilst in Matahari, on the third floor, there was a loud noise and the entire building trembeled for some time. The Balinese staff totally freaked out, started screaming and running. They left the cash registers and bolted - some even jumped over the escalators. This was a really scary experience, when you see the locals doing this you instantly assume something has blown up. I had my two children in the store and it was the longest journey down the escalators and onto the street. Once we got outside the local hawkers on the sidewalk thought this was terribly funny!!! It was a tremor! This was our fourth visit and I hadn't been aware that this happened. We were really shook up - I was expecting my husband to be worried about us when we got back to the hotel - but he had not felt the tremor at all. Some of the other hotel guests who had been in their rooms did feel it. Maybe it had something to do with not being at ground level. But it didn't wreck the holiday at all. Go and have fun.
