because of the astronimical cost of BIMC and SOS. I use Kuta Clinic as my GP. It's run by a Dr Taty, who has lived in Japan, England and the USA, and apart from long medical experience brings wisdom to her practice.
The price is around Rp 100,000 a consultation, more if you neeed stitches etc, which is fair.
I know most tourists have medical insurance, which is the only reason they tolerate the high charges - imagine being charged $250 by your GP at home!!.This is also another reason why the cost of health insurance is rising so fast.
I and my immediate family, have been mis-diagnosed on 3 occasions at one of these expensive institutions. On the last occasion, the doctor I saw admitted he had no idea what the problem was, rang Jakarta and came up with a diagnosis and treatment, which I wrote down. Paid the large fee and rang my 85 year old retired medico father, who suggested that the diagnosis was rubbish, that it sounded like blah blah blah, so get a second opinion. I did, they agreed with phone diagnosis from NZ, and I received the correct treatment.
So paying the big fee is no guarantee of good advice.
In the light of what has happened elsewhere on the Forum today, this may be my last posting - or Last Post as we are nearing April 25th -as the FA may kick me out for advertising. I hope reason prevails.
