The tablets that you buy over the counter are called Imodium, you don't need a prescription for them and they work very well if you have Diarrhoea.
I think they cost about Aus $20 a packet from the chemist, cheaper over the net from epharmacy, well worth it if you ever get diarrhoea and you have to travel.
If you do get gastro (BB) as someone else mentioned, it's better to let the bug pass through you within a couple of days, if your still sick after that, you could take the tablets.
The tablets mentioned in another post called Lomotil are on prescription only....unless that's changed recently, but I think Imodium are just as good.
