Do a forum search and you'll find a lot of comments that say the same kind of thing.
Tourist levels seem to be down in Sanur and the markets at Sindhu are often like a ghost town. I went twice in 2003 (May and Nov) and both times we were the only tourists in the whole market. The sellers are desperate and very VERY pushy. They latch onto you the second you hit the footpath before even reaching the market and won't let go. They try and push you to go to their stall and it's all very uncomfortable.
You can't just browse. Well, you probably could if you're stone hearted, but it's quite depressing and when you combine the heat with the pushy sellers it's just not an enjoyable experience.
