The easiest & cheapest way is to buy a local sim card. I bought mine just outside Matahari in Kuta Sq, they will put in in the phone & set it up for you. You just have to re-enter the phone numbers you need & when you sms, tell friend's etc to keep your new number. Sms's are a lot cheaper with local sim card, I think it's about half the price as home. I think it cost around $10-15 with same amount of credit & you just top up credit when you need to, just the same as prepaid here.
Just make sure your phone is unlocked, which I believe it should already be if your on a plan.
