I checked with Telstra before I left about charges etc. and it was going to cost too much to use from there so I bought a sim card from Mataharis for my phone and SMS charges are so so cheap. I was SMSing everyone to use my credit up.
Calls to Australia were a little bit more than the local wartel. I only made a couple of calls back home, mainly SMS but it is cheaper to do it that way, I am pretty sure
