Get a Visa or do Visa Run??

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. For part of my trip travelling around SE Asia I'll be in Bali and elsewhere in Indonesia for over 30 days. I can't decide whether to go through the hassle of getting a 60 day visa before I leave the UK, or whether to do a Visa run to Singapore/KL/wherever is easiest when I'm there.

Does anyone who has had experience of doing a Visa run have any advice? What is the easiest and cheapest way to do it when you are already there?
