I went Early Feb with a mate who is always right. He wanted a 4.5 litre cradle (The big bottle in the rocker) We tried to tell him to combine his and wife's and they should be ok. My wife and I went seperate on arrival and stayed within limits. He got a 4.5 for himself and 2.25 of other spirits for his wife. He declared them at Customs. at the "Goods to declare" he and wife were taken to counter and 4.5lt seized into bond. He told them straight up he was willing to pay the duty. Yes he paid duty on the whole 4.5lt = $108AUD. He still recons he was ok despite us telling him to have the 4.5 between them and then buy wife's alcohol at shop at home. You work it out, about $18 per litre duty. (He had to pay duty on the 2.25 as well as the 4.5.
