We stay at the Padma when with the family. Great location, great breakfast. Close to everything but not in the middle of Kuta. It is true that everyone has their own opinions and thank heavens for that. Personally, I would not stay at the Kartika as it is just as impersonal and at the wrong end of town.
So don't worry needlessly. Sure, you may go there and find that you don't like it but plenty of us do! Have a great trip.
