Returned from Bali on 26th March via Brunei and 4 days in Brisbane.Brisbane customs were the rudist we encountered but the guys that checked our wooden items were nice. Trip to Bali was different then expected. As 1st time N.Zers (mother and 19yr old daughter) found the advise on this forum excellent. Had raspberry jam morning and night and did not get sick. Stayed at Jayakarta Hotel in Legian which we liked ,was a big place, nice pools, nice staff and nice breakfasts.I found shopping a lot harder than I thought it would be.Sometimes just hunted out fixed price stores to save the hassle of bargaining. Found women shopowners easier to deal with than some of the more agressive men. Did not like Kuta (except for Mataharis) and perferred to shop at Legian or Melatsi rd. Used only Blue taxis and found most of them great. The beach outside the Jayakarta was strewn with rubbish so did not swim there. Used a money changer around the corner from the hotel and he was great.Always ate one of the many different restaurants close to the hotel and had some great meals and yummy cocktails. Went on a tour to Ubud which was o.k but really enjoyed the tour to Tanah Lot and the Monkey forest. The guy with the huge python at Tanah Lot was great and we had a photo with it around our necks for 20.000rp.Met some lovely people and 1 or 2 not so nice. Weather was perfect every day and the bonus about the high humidity is you do not need to moisturize your skin, you lose weight as you do not feel like eating,if you have sensitive teeth you do not have it in Bali and the sun does not burn you like N.Z. Brought some great stuff and the quality of the rip off label clothes and watches vary but some is really good hard to tell that it is a rip off.Went to Denpasar where the taxi driver dropped us off at the markets. Not very nice smelling but some good bargains to be found and easier bargaining but once out of the market and on the street some extremely persistant sellers. Got my son a replica momo steering wheel for 200.000rp which he thinks is really cool. I think shopping would have been a bit easier if my husband had travelled with us.Found the traffic mind boggling , the cats and dogs different than in N.Z and the airport lovely.Amazed at what they sell over there and got home regretting not buying many other things I saw. Love all the wonderful wood carvings, jewellery, watches etc. Will I return I certainly hope so. Next time though I will not stay put in one area but see a bit more of Bali
