On saturday morning skipped brekky again and went into Kuta. Decided to go to Starbucks to get a real coffee fix. We then wandered down to the beach for the markets as they are a once a year thing. The markets were great. Very busy. Lots of locals there too. Many hawkers annoying everyone but we love that. After the markets struggled again to get transport. Ended up finding some near Hard Rock. We wanted to go to Denpasar Markets. When we got there we told the driver we would be about an hour, so he walked home to see his kids, as he lived close by. As it turned out only half the markets were open due to the holidays. Bought some shirts and stuff and headed back to the van. But wasn't even close to an hour, so driver was no where to be seen. As we waited we were surrounded by about 10 hawkers. They very pushy. But all good fun. Ended up buying gold coin braclets for the kids.
Hiring a car and driving ourselves was great. So much easier than looking for taxis. Especially when we just wanted to go for dinner. But it's not for everyone. Hubby thinks its great fun driving in Bali but I personally prefer being the passenger. JBR 4 soon.
That night we dedided to go to Bubba Gumps. What a fun place. It was very American but lots of fun. Had a fantastic waiter. He was totally crazy. When you want service you flip over the "stop forrest stop" number plate and waiters yell STOP THE RESTAURANT and race to your table. Fantastic service, yummy food and lots of run.
On Saturday we hired a car for the day to go to Ubud, as my husband loves driving in Bali. Our newbie friends wern't so keen. Took about an hour and a half as we were guessing our way. Got pulled over by the police for supposably running a red light. They demanded we pay 150 000rp. Ha. Ended up giving them about 8000rp. When we arrived we went to Casa Luna for breakfast yum yum. Went to a few wood shops and bought some fishermen and masks. There were many many wooden penises. Everywhere you look. When we pointed them out the 60 something mother was giggling away. Drove up artists road. Gosh it goes forever and so much to look at. Also the the views of rice fields along here. Stooped the car, Quikly ran out to take a photo and jumped back in, before bring caught by the hawkers. About 3:00 o' clock started to pour down so headed back to Legian. That afternoon we booked a cruise for Tuesday. We choose the Three Island, Ocean Rafting. And went with Island Explorer as they were about $20 cheaoer than Bounty and Bali Hai.
