DAY 7 - Today we were off in the Bali Bus which was included in out travel package to Ubud (Thanks San Michele Travel) Lucky for us we were the only 2 on the bus so the driver took good care of us and took us to wherever we wanted to go on the way, we stopped at a few batik factorys and silver places on the way but we were really set on hitting Ubud for the day. Driver dropped as off and allowed us a couple of hours to walk the streets.
We came across this magnificent bead shop where they sold bags, thongs heavily beaded, beautiful beautiful stuff.
Well I walked out with 2 bags 3 prs thongs, earrings, necklaces- 420,000= $58
Brenda walked out with about 2 kilos of assorted beads, glass, wooden hand painted they were all gorgeous. - 252,000 - $35 Sorry we cant remember the name but in monkey forest road, there are a few bead places similar.
Once again a variety of boutique shops that offered unique designs, they didn't like to barter too much, but prices were still reasonable.
Ventured to the markets on the corner, this a bit like a rabbit warren stalls every which way you turn, variety of jewellery although you had to really check it for holes.
Found a really different wooden fruit bowl that collapsed down so I thought well that was good for taking back wont take up much room, must have 50,000 = $7. The smell was not too good so we had to get out of there before we vomited.
We had lunch at Wayan Café in monkey forest road, this was an oasis beautiful gardens with pergoda type eating parlours with fans ...very nice and very popular grilled snapper, lemon chicken, plus drinks .....132,000= $18 Bargain..........
On the way back to Legian we stopped at Sukawati markets, we were a bit disappointed after everyone telling us how good they were, it was rows and rows of the same sarongs, t-shirts, shorts everywhere, and if you were game enough to venture into the depths of it all you found more of the same. No one was really interested in selling us anything, although I was checking out the ceremony umbrellas......for goodness sake says Brenda how the hell are you going to get these into your ....these were a bargain at 60,000 = $8, did I really want them, no I'll wait until my next trip...Hey Brenda...remind me to put this on my list for next holiday....
I did manage to get a crododile wood mask - 50,000 = $7 and 2 paintings in hand carved wooden frames - 100,000 = $14 bargain...yep these will fit just nicely in my suitcase....I hope.
Ok we had had enough and needed to go back to hotel for refreshments of swim and afternoon drinks.........
