DAY 4 : Quieter day planned for today we caught taxi to Denpasar Matahari's where everyone who does not work on a market stall works, they have staff for every counter and not many of them can speak English so it can become very frustrating, outside Mataharis there is a shopping mall , again not many shops open , or if open they closed at 12.00 , we ventured into Matahari's supermarket , would recommend this as a cultural experience , the variety of food and other items was mond boggling as we didn't know what they were just the look of some things was odd, we grabbed some cheap presents for back home. Shampoos and body wash 10,000 = $1.40 nice wooden boxes with tea or coffee for 20000 = $2.80 we purchased nibblies for tomorrow Nyepi Day, for lunch we found this juice bar that served freshly squeezed pineapple juice for 3,750 = 0.52c and the bakery had some interesting cakes etc which we decided to partake in for lunch which cost us a grand total of 11,915 = $1.65 for the 2 of us.
Next we ventured to Kuta Square ooooooooohhhhhhhh we didn't like this place at all, very aggressive hawkers who are in your face all the time and doing all the touchy stuff as you are trying to walk along the narrow paths, to get away from them we had to walk into the shops and by this stage we didn't care to look in the shops but just to get away from them, didn't feel very safe in this area at all. We walked back to the hotel and had a swim and relaxing afternoon by the pool, sipping cocktails for happy hour which worked well as they had one happy hour between 4pm-6pm at one pool then 6pm-7pm at the other pool so this worked well. Tonight we ventured out to Padma street , grabbed some great beaded necklaces that were different to what we had seen everywhere 2 necklaces plus 4 braclets that were also that bit different for 100,000 = $14 . Brenda also negotiated a bargain with strands of glass/mirrors things that you hang in the door way she got 10 of them for 50,000 = $7 as well as beads/bracelets . Once again not much open only those businesses operated by Muslims were open. We stumbled across another nice eating place called Padma Café very nice ambiance and a bit of entertainment , the food was delicious, again for 2 people, mains, dessert and drinks 200,000 = $27 aus we could justify this tonight as we didn't spend much on lunch.
The night rain came down and did the usual flooding of the streets but by the time we were ready to walk back it was hotter and steamer even at 10.00pm.
Oh another day over and need to recharge...stay tuned for day 5
