I had my card copied, westpac fraud rang me. When i commented that i should not use the card any more, even though i only use in hotels or department stores....he said "no, that would make life very difficult, keep using".He said to ring the bank 2 weeks before you travel, let them know where you will be and the dates" they will keep an eye on the card and if it is used then they will know is you....if used there afterwards they will know it has been copied.
All calls to the bank overseas are reverse charge as long as you go through the operator so keep a copy of the phone number on the back of the card and all relevent details with you.
He also said it is not where you use the card that is the problem....thinking hotels are safe is correct as it is usually just one shonky staff member.
