I bought a money belt before my first ever trip to Bali in 94, based on advice I got from the Lonely Planet.
I never used it on that trip and I've never used one since. Uncomfy, inconvenient and not worth the hassle from my point of view. It might be OK for a guy to reach down inside his shirt every time he wants cash, but for me I could do without it - especially in Bali's heat.
I use a cheapo velcro wallet in Bali and leave my regular purse at home. I tend to wear shorts or comfy pants when I'm there anyway, so there's always a pocket handy to put the wallet into.
