When I moved to Lombok I had my cats rehomed as I did not think life in Lombok would be easy for them to adjust too. The journey, the heat, the wild dogs that, they having grown up with dogs my cats would not run from.
Balinese do eat dog at times. My husband is balinese & I know this to be true. When you are poor & hungry you will eat many things that may be strange to people from other countries.
You can protect your dogs from thieves by keeping them within your land as we do(with our local dogs) but if there is a chance that you will return home be sure you know the cost of getting you animals back. For UK pets have to go into quarantine for 6 months. It is very hard on the animal & also very expensive to the owner. I dont know if it is the same for Australia but I would rather leave my pets rehomed in Uk than risk all the traumas of a long haul move &possibly that failing. Also vetineray care does not compare to back home & can be as expensive as treating a person in hospital. All to be taken into consideration
