are interested. Just came out in the Bali Eats online mag.
So many too choose from now, take a look:
"And the new places just continue to open, and the old ones introduce new
things!

Pica Tapas Bar & Churrasqueria is the newest addition to the Istana Kuta
Galeria Centre. At last in Bali, a place that knows what they are doing in
serving tapas! They are as they should be; small plates [Rp.10-15,000 each],
a variety of dishes that are mainly finger-food. Albondigas [meat balls],
Pincho Moruno con Rosemery [meat brochettes with rosemary], Libritos de Lomo
Rebozado [pork loin stuffed with cheese], Croqutas de Pescado [seafood
croquettes] and Tortilla de Patata [slices of a traditional Spanish
omelette] are amongst the many Interesting dishes you can pick at whilst
enjoying a quiet drink or chat with friends, in air-conditioned comfort or
out on the river terrace. For subsequent serious dining it is hard to go
past their impressive array of Spanish Paellas.

The Pantry is found at the northern entrance to Hardies Grosir, in Jln.
Danau Tamblingan, Sanur. They offer a wide range of well-packed sandwiches
on a variety of breads [mix and match yourself], as well as a selection of
pre-prepared ones [including a Chicken Fajita Roll, Parma Ham Sandwich and a
Chicken Tandoori & Lamb Souvlaki Wraps], with good coffee in air-conditioned
comfort. A good place for a pit-stop whilst shopping! Opposite is The Pantry
'Off the Shelf', where they have a wide choice of imported food items,
breads and wines.

Oshin is also inside the foyer of Hardies Grosir in Sanur. All they sell is
fresh Sushi and Sashimi. Sit at the bar or at the tables and enjoy the
healthiest of lunches [or just an anytime snack].

Trattoria Lunch and Pizza is the latest brainchild from the ever-busy
Trattoria Cucina in Jln. Laksmana, Kerobokan. Situated next door to Khaima
it is a small area serving a limited lunch menu with a few pastas [including
that great gnocchi], pannini's and pizzas. Prices are as low as their main
restaurant [now almost doubled in size but still full every night], and has
already proved to be very popular.

Handlebar Resto & Grill is a service station for Harley Davidson bikes and
their riders! Drop your bike at the workshop [it can be of any make] to be
serviced, and proceed to the terraced café overlooking the rice paddies.
Bikers are supposed to have big appetites and here they will look after you!
Grilled meats and seafood are their specialty.

Begawan Giri has lost the services of their Executive Chef, Claudia Dunlop.
Claudia has returned to Australia, for personal reasons, after working for a
number of years at Como Resorts around the world. New Chef is well-travelled
Englishman Tim Bouget who has already produced his kitchen magic at a number
of leading five star and international boutique hotels. We look forward to
his new menu, coming up very soon.

D'ocean Food Court is a massive area at the top of the centre block of the
new Discovery Shopping Mall. More than 80 different food outlets provide an
enormous variety, although some offer other than the original [Mongolian
Beef from Vietnam??? Is Geography not a popular subject in Bali?]. Now this
Shopping Centre is very different from the rest, only open a couple of
months already almost fully let and teeming with customers.

Mystique is mysterious! Originally only open for interesting Lunch and Bar
Snacks [Ham & Potato Frittata, Chorizo and Coriander noodles, Chilli con
Carne, etc.] it is now also open for evening dining, with a more exotic
menu. Set in an open roadside area between the two swimming pools it also
houses a rarity in Bali, a grand piano. I believe they are looking for
someone who 'sings like Ella' to give a further romantic and stylish twist
to dining at Mystique. It is located in front of the Bali Mystique Boutique
Hotel and Apartments, in Jln. Petitenget, Kerobokan. The evening menu is
more than interesting! You can start with a Noodle soup with Duck Wontons or
a Duck Ravioli with Shiitake Mushrooms, followed by a slow-roasted Pork Rack
that has been simmered in BBQ sauce or Duck braised with Szechuan pepper.
Finish with a Moroccan Date and Raisin Pudding, with mango ice cream.

Yut'z Place has doubled in size. This amazing little restaurant in Jln. Jln.
Werkudera [Rum Jungle Road], Legian, still continues to pack them in with
their mix of old Swiss and German favourites. Their former premises across
the road where you used to have to queue for a table, still remain virtually
empty. The choices are many at Yut'z Place but either the Smoked Chicken
Breast or the Meatloaf topped with an egg and onion sauce are both so
difficult to go past! Select from an array of potato dishes to accompany,
including a perfect crunchy Swiss Rosti or those German style pan-fried
potatoes.

Lai Lai Ken is another newcomer to the Istana Kuta Galeria. Like all of the
sites on the river-side of this centre, you have a choice of inside dining
or out on the terrace. Lai Lai Ken is a Ramen Noodle house with a vast
variety of options. Strange to me, but all the offerings are available in
two different portion sizes; Local [small] and Japanese [large]! I had not
realized that Japanese appetites were necessarily that much bigger than that
of Indonesians?

Lola, that very chic French eatery on Jln. Kerobokan, is quickly becoming
very popular for lunch [it is even air-conditioned]. A small a la carte menu
includes a refreshing cold soup of cucumber and fresh mint, a Spaghetti
Stroganoff and a real Beef Tartar amongst others. They also have a great
value ever-changing table d'hote menu where you can choose from 4 options
for each course, only Rp.49,500++ for a main course plus either starter or
dessert.. Options can include a Salad with grilled poultry livers and
lentils, a Lamb and White Bean Casserole, Braised Snapper or Oxtail with
Potato Gratin.

BBQ on Eat Street is a recent adjunct to that popular 'fish and chipery',
Wrap A Snapper! It appears that whilst some people tend to think that my fun
name for Jln. Laksmana in Kerobokan cheapens the place, others seem to
welcome it.

Fuel has tweaked its menu. Kuta's new trendy restaurant, that starts out as
an elegant casual diner and ends up as a raging late-nighter, has added a
couple of tasty extras to their already interesting menu. Mandarin Rolls
lead the way. Those soft little round pancakes are wrapped around crispy
chunks and shards of duck with spring onions and lashings of hoisin sauce.
The already great Braised Pork Belly, with soy-honey glaze on a red cabbage
and white bean base, has become even better with a crispier skin. A Beef Pot
Pie is braised beef and veggies under flaky puff pastry, a hearty meal for
those who are going to party all night!

The Village has moved from its original location in Jln. Danau Tamblingan,
Sanur, to a new very stylish air-conditioned site at the entrance to the
Santrian Hotel. Italian chef, Giorgio, serves up traditional fare including
two old favourites of mine; Scaloppine al Marsala and Osso Buco."
