Gianyar is ideally situated to see Ubud [for many reasons], Sukawati [markets], Celuk [silversmiths], Klunkung [heritage buildings], Padang Bai [ferry port for Lombok, otherwise like a fishing village from times past] and maybe also Candi Dasa and Amed and Tenganan Bali Aga traditional village. And not too far from Denpasar and Kuta etc.

Staying with a family, you will see a side of Bali which few of us ever see, but you will need transport to get around. Maybe your hosts will show you how to get everywhere for [by our standards] almost nothing, on the local public transport system. Don't forget to post a JBR [just back report] on your return.
