Dear Sue and David,
My husband and I just returned from Bali a week ago.
Our last 2 night were at the Puri in a Club Room.
We had been spoilt by staying in villas, which afforded us a lot of room and privacy, so the Puri was rather large and impersonal in comparison.
The Puri is set amongst nice gardens and is a bit of a rabbit warren to get around. The beach area is nice, with plenty of pool lounges. Food at the Mezzanine is wonderful and try Donald's on the beach, to the right of the Puri for a meal.
There are many Europeans at the Puri and mostly in the retired age bracket.
I did not think that the door lock to the room was adequate, just one of those click and snip, no night latch.
Our friends staying at the Griya loved the Puri much more.
I would also check out the hotel next door to the Puri - the Sanur Beach Hotel (I think that is the name). Most of the rooms faced the beach and would offer better breeze access than at the Puri!
Do a search here for DonRon, who told me this before we left!
Good luck.
cheers,
Caroline
