Rotary Seminyak saw the need, raised the money and Nengah was the clerk of works to built the toilets, and he made a bloody good job too. Now the 200 kids at the school don't have to go behind the classrooms or on the beach when nature calls. Plus they can wash with clean water.

You can imagine how much better the school smells!!!

Several other schools in the area are the same but thanks to the generousity of several Aussie and Kiwi clubs we can make a start on other schools and continue with cleft lip and palate operations for the many kids with this terrible disability.

There's a great Aussie guy in Sanur, John Fawcett, who has a humanitarian foundation which does tremendous work. We got his eye team to the area twice last year as none of the children had ever had their eyes tested. The upshot was that many slow learners now have glasses, and dozens of village people had their sight restored with simple cataract operations, including one cute little girl who had been born cataract blind.

So many good caring, people come to Bali, but don't see the poverty behind the smiles. If they did they would gladly leave a few dollars to help with projects like these - and yes, this is an unashamed plug for donations. http://www.rotaryseminyak.org is the site, click on community to see the work that's being done.

David and Marissa, the American couple who owned Bayu, sold at the end of last year to a young Dutch Guy and his Javanese wife ( that probably shows my age ), whom he had met while she was at university in Holland. They have kept the family on and seem like really good people. Only met them once, but are heading that way next week and always stay at Bayu.

We'll pass on your regards and have a couple on your behalf.
