Sorry to have read what happened, it's not so much the actual loss itself but the time it takes to arrange for everything to be replaced etc.

So to help minimise any possible loss before it even happens, always leave behind what you don't need in Bali ie if you are not driving a car, leave your licence at home. You won't need your Medicare card or health insurance cards. or video store cards! or store credit cards.

Don't carry your credit card in the same purse or wallet as your ATM card, because if you lose one or it gets stolen, you always have the other one available and you can always ring home to transfer funds from one to the other if you need to.

Over the years, I have found that sewing a small pocket inside the waistband of your pants or shorts is a good place to keep a credit card or ATM card. Easy for you to get at, but not so easy for anyone else!

Don't forget to take photocopies of what you do take with you and leave them with friends or family, much easier to replace lost things if you know the numbers etc.
