Everything your hearing is correct, you must be extremely careful when investing in O/S property. Make sure everything is outlined in black & white and that a solicitor oversees the deal. There are excellent Indonesian and Aussie solicitors practising on the island. You could also use one of the international Real Estate groups.
As previously mentioned, there are no screaming bargains or free lunches. We currently have 12 Villas under construction on Bali , six of which are already sold to foreign investors. The paperwork has to be detailed and watertight for our European and Aussie clients. Also as Rangi has indicated, if you can't afford to lose the money, don't invest it. REMEMBER this is not home and things can change rapidly on foreign soil. There are good margins to be made if the property is leased out to a large reputable Company. Just be careful and use a reputable agent to handle the lease as you won't be living around the corner.
Cheers,, Paul
