I recall an unusual "purchase". We went on a tour to Kintamani and were surrounded by the legendary "hard sell" guys. One young guy wanted to sell me a carved wooden chess set. No way would I meet his price. Eventually he offered to exchange it for the sneakers I was wearing, a very average quality, unknown brand, partially worn pair, probably from BigW or K-Mart in Perth. [On this occasion we bartered rather than bargained!] My wife wanted to know why I wanted it at all, seeing as I don't play chess. It's on display in the lounge room.
