have stayed in HMGH in sept and april and never felt it necessary - as others said, used air flow and fans and felt comfortable. In June stayed at tegal sari which had air cond but didnt use it there either. I live in noosa qld which is semi tropical and can be quirte hot and humid for 4 months or so of the year- where are you from? that may be a factor in whether you'll need it or not ( have always used air con down when staying down in kuta and sanur, as the temperature always warmer there).
