Most use a similar product but yes some are better than others.
eg sometimes they sting, other times they don't (and that can be the least of your worries).
Perhaps do a search in the archives & on the net for further info on what the reactions are like & what the ingredients actually contain (& show your son too)

There are also many many adults & kids who do get them done in Bali
If you decide on letting him get one, then I can give you the name of someone we used. He works from a tattoo studio & not from the beach Totally your choice to make and whether you are comfortable with it.
If not..then don't.
