I would try bamboo corner in poppies 1. Don't know exactly where it is but has really good indo food. All the smaller cafes off the beaten track are usually the best for real local food. there is also a bamboo corner in legian on your way to poco loco. With regards to safe food we order vegetarian most of the time over there just in case even though we love meat. If your not happy with your meal ask them to take it back and try again. If that fails as well go for the banana pancake can't go to wrong with them. Have fun.
