when I visited in January 05 there were heaps of markets at the Sindu Beach Markets. My friend and I actually thought they were better in some respects than Kuta. Excellent range of goods etc. but I did not know what it was like before. There are no markets actually on the sand but right the way along the waterfront. Hope this helps.
