Our experience is that you always get a better deal going direct in busy times but can pick up a "bargain" in the quieter periods, albeit with not much notice. Australind travel (down Bunbury way) seems to get a good wrap on the forum, but I can't vouch for them myself. I'm sure others will have suggestions too.
