You may decide to take recommendations from this forum & book in advance or just hire one from the street.
To get to Ubud you can just get one off the street or even get a cab to drive you (you can use the meter or negotiate beforehand)
In January it cost us 100000rp to get to Ubud (in a Kijang)and the same guy came back at the end of the following day to take us back to Kuta
Once in Ubud there is an abundance of drivers to choose from lining the streets to drive you around or back to the south when ready.
If considering hiring a driver the whole time (off the street or pre-booked) then 300000rp per day would probably be the upper limit to pay (there are many much cheaper)
Also his lodgings for the time (local or otherwise) would need to be taken into consideration if he was hired from the south.
Below are some drivers listed which can be contacted beforehand if that's the way you choose to go & I'm sure there will be many more recommended here as well.
