The farther the distance one has to travel, the greater the difference between the prepaid cab and the hailed Bluebird, I would imagine.
On the only ocassion, I did the trip (from the airport to DKP), I noticed there were plenty of taxis. However, it was about 1.30 in the afternoon and it may have been a dull period for them.
Yes, ofcourse, its up to the individual. But, for those travelling light and roughing it out in losmens, the option shouldn't be altogether ruled out.
