Its the moisture that the wax retains that is a great breeding ground for bugs. Don't need to be in Bali for this problem to occur.
Don't spare the Aqua Ear, you can't use too much of it. If that doesn't help, try a few drops of Hydogen Peroxide(that and dropper available from chemist in Aus) first. It fizzes and breaks up the wax and gives the bug grief. Drain the ear after using it. If you still get an infection you can get antibiotic ear drops from an Apotek that work beautifully. Checked them with my GP and she said they were appropriate for further infections!
