Don't know of any good snorkeling near where you are staying. You could try the rock pools at Bali Cliff at low tide, or near the rocky headland at Pantai Geger [Nusa Dua], to the right as you get to the beach.

I've snorkeled in the Padang Bai/Candi Dasa/Amed area. Probably one of the easiest places is right in front of the Vienna Beach Hotel in Lipah [Amed]. Extensive live coral reef, lots of fish and safe. Usually best at least rise and fall of the tide.

Well worth the trip for the scenery and for the chance to get away from the heavily touristy areas. A vehicle and driver approx 250,000 to 300,000 for all day. Nothing else to pay, unless you call in at a special attraction, where there may be a small parking fee. Buy the driver a cool drink along the way when you get one for yourself and invite him to have lunch with you. He may or may not accept your lunch offer, but if he does then he won't take advantage of you.
