whilst in bali in august last year my daughter dived into the pool and cut open her chin requiring a few stitches. being a nurse i panicked (probably not appropriate) but was concerned regarding sterile equipment and infection. was staying at the Jayakarta and they immediately called their resident doctor who initially saw her in our room then asked if we could take her to the hotel clinic. arrived at clinic and initially thought i had done the wrong thing-was hot, no ventillation and looked like no other clinic i had ever been in before-i then told the doctor that i was a nurse and would only allow him to suture my daughter if i could see all instruments used taken out of sterile containers-he agreed to this and did a great job-scar now almost non existant and no infection. he also prescribed antibiotics but i had taken over a supply with me in case of an emergency like this. we may have just been lucky as believe me, i did have my reservations about having treatment at the hotel rather than the bimc, but the stories i have (not written here)about the experience are priceless. the fee for doctor-including suturing-$40AUD.
