The area generally known as Amed is actually a number of small villages spread along the coast. Probably the most well known of these is Lipah.

Lipah has plenty of accomodation choices and we all have our own favourites. There is an extensive live coral reef for snorkeling with plenty of fish right in front of the Vienna Beach Hotel. Easy access off the beach.

Plenty of small restaurants in Lipah, but no "nightlife" to speak of. Sometimes a singer/guitarist or maybe a small group at Wawa Wewe. We were lucky and struck a great evening at the warung next to Wawa Wewe. A full gamelan [traditional] orchestra and a Balinese joged dancer. The joged dancer gets people out of the audience to dance with her, one at a time. Great fun and you don't have to know what you're doing!

If you like scuba diving, there's a shipwreck just off the beach at Tulamben, a short drive away.

Probably worth a drive to Candi Dasa and maybe on to Padang Bai. The scenery alone makes it worthwhile. Go one way on the coast road and the other on the inland road past Tirtagangga. Two restaurants in Candi Dasa, Legends Cafe and Iguana, have rock groups on nights which do not conflict. Versatile and not too loud, but not, in my opinion, worth a special trip and a night drive back to Amed.
