Get a bemo to the markets or hire one for about half a day will do.
A lot of the locals bring their goods there and people from Kuta and other areas also buy from there.
The markets are going towards Ubud and will take around 1 hour to get there. It will take around three or fours hours just to look around and have fun with the locals. Some good paintings, clothes and really just about anything you want. It is really crowded and hot at times so take water. When you get there and see the building you will think should I go in or not. It has three story's to it and enough clothes in it to outfit almost everyone in Australia three times. There are many other shops around there to have a good look at.
Leave there and go to Ubud which is just up the road and have lunch so just make a day of it. Really it is a good day out. Some don't like others do. It really doesn't matter as you are on holidays and just enjoy it.
One more thing is I would go there in the morning around 9, 9:30 as it will not be as hot or crowded.
