I always take mine for exactly the same reasons (DVD viewing and downloading/storing photos). When we leave the room I have my laptop stored inside a locked suitcase. The theory being that anyone can easily knock-off a laptop but you tend to look a little more obvious and suspicious wandering through the hotel grounds with a suitcase. We also have good insurance and copies of the important stuff on the hard drive. I don't think you will have a problem so just have a ball.
