I do dumb stuff all the time and take a lot of risks just coz I don't want to miss out on experiences. Obviously, I'd prefer not to get sick, so I take a few minimal precautions, like not eating at a warung with a pile of bodies stacked behind it, but otherwise I eat first and ask what it is later. If I get sick, too bad, que sera sera, c'est la vie, tidak apa apa and other foreign words.
Many people who go to Bali are going on the only holiday they'll get for a year, and it'd be tragic if they missed the whole thing coz they got sick. So they should take a few more precautions, but without going so crazy about it that it affects their holiday.
As Colleen said, the real thing is a lot differernt to what most people think is Bali Belly. A lot of people just have reactions to food they are not used to. But that can still ruin a holiday, not to mention a nice pair of pants.
