Ahhhhh Ubud and it's surrounding areas, wonderful place where you can get to know Balinese culture and understand the real Bali a lot better. There's not much culture in Kuta, it's terribly commercial and more like one big flat eating, partying, shopping mecca. I love many things about Ubud, right down to looking at the creative and tasteful design and architectural ideas of some of the new shops in Ubud - it has always drawn the artistic souls perhaps because it is so inspiring. Go explore the rice paddies and the surrounding areas, the Sayan terraces - there is SOOOOO much to see in and around Ubud. I agree with all the posts here, Ubud is so unlike Kuta - thank goodness! Don't get me wrong, I love Kuta too but Ubud has that 'ahhhhh' factor. Have a wonderful time!
